Cross-Country

Master in Charge: Mr Brian Jacobs

Assistant Master in Charge: Mrs Lynette Swart

Overview

Cross-country can be selected by learners as a main Winter sport and involves running on off-road tracks and trials. Competition distances vary from 4km to 8km depending on the different age groups. Grey competes in the Port Elizabeth High Schools cross-country league in the u/15,u/17 and u/19 age groups. Schools enter teams of 4 athletes to compete in the league competition and the positions of all 4 athletes are added together to determine the winning team for each age group at each league meeting. League races usually take place on Wednesday afternoons and the winners of the different age group competitions are announced at the end of the season. Grey cross-country athletes also compete against traditional rivals like Wynberg, Selborne and Queens in annual Derby-day fixtures. Cross-country athletes are further encouraged to compete in the E.P. cross-country leagues on Saturdays as well as road races and fun-runs.

PE HOBIE BEACH PARK RUN:

We also want the athletes to sign up for the PE Hobie Beach Park Run.  This can be done by means of the Park Run website.  Running the Park Run is free.  It occurs every Saturday at 8AM from the pier at Hobie Beach.  We would like the boys to run at least two park runs a month when there is no Derby Day event.
