Grey High School Cricket had a very busy and successful opening to the season with five teams attending various Festivals throughout the Country during the recent holidays.

The Grey 1st XI had a very successful Cape Schools week in Cape Town hosted by Rondebosch Boys. They beat three Western Province Schools Bishops, SACS and Paarl Boys and then had an exciting draw against Wynberg. The Grey bowlers let Wynberg off the hook , after having Wynberg at 131 for 7. Allowed Wynberg to score 256. Grey got themselves into a position with 20 overs to go with wickets in hand to chase the big target. In the desperate chase to win, they lost wickets regularly and ended with the last pair at the crease and having to block out the final over for a draw.

The wickets in Cape Town were slow and the Grey spinners had to play a big role. Both leg spinner Connor De Lange (taken 156 wickets for the Grey 1st XI) and left arm spinner Matthew Biggs took five wickets in an innings each. Luke Beaufort dominated the batting for Grey totalling 234 at an average of 117, include a century against SACS. He was well supported by the Captain, Tristan Stubbs who scored runs each day.

The Grey U15A team participated in the Grey High Festival where they hosted 16 top Cricketing Schools for a four days of Festival cricket. Seven of the top eight ranked U15 teams in the Country are at the Festival, the only team missing is sixth ranked KES. The hosts Grey Colts A team had an exceptional week cementing their position as the Top U15 team in the Country, winning all four of their games against teams that are all ranked in the Top 8 in the Country.

Special mention must be made of the Grey batsmen, who dominated all bowling attacks. George van Heerden had an outstanding week, scoring 104no, 150no, 84 and 16no, an incredible 354 runs and was only dismissed once. He was well supported by James Hoffmeyr (2 x half centuries) Marnus Winter, Joshua Voight and Jade Smith.

The Grey 2nd XI were also in Cape Town playing in the Cape Youth week hosted by Westerford. The Grey team had a successful week winning 3 matches and losing just one.

The 3rd XI attend The Oakhill Festival in Knysna, winning 3 games and losing just two. Good result considering they were playing other Schools 1st and 2nd teams.

The Grey U14A team were in Paarl at the Charl van Rooyen week. Generally in difficult batting conditions, the team did very well to win 2 games, lose one and hold onto a draw against Affies in the time cricket match
