Overview

Mathematical Literacy was introduced as a subject in 2006 with 11 students and has steadily grown since then. Two classes of matrics are currently completing their studies in this subject.


Brief Policy

Mathematical Literacy is a choice subject in Grades 10–12. Mathematical Literacy provides students with an awareness and understanding of the role that mathematics plays in the modern world. It is a subject driven by life-related applications of mathematics. It enables students to develop the ability and confidence to think numerically and spatially in order to interpret and critically analyse everyday situations and solve problems.


Homework

Classwork exercises are given daily and homework is usually given daily.


Tests and forms of Assessment

There are 2 controlled tests in Term 1 (one open-book), 1 in Term 2 and 2 in Term 3. Other assessment includes a research project, a source-based project, assignments, worksheets, class tests and formal examinations in Term 2 and 4.
