Overview

EGD is offered as a technical subject in the FET phase and is the medium of communication used by engineers and architects in the design and production of goods, processes, services and systems. In this subject learners are expected to communicate effectively using verbal, written, visual, graphical and mathematical construction skills as applied to the fields of manufacturing, engineering, technology and architecture. Being a technical subject, EGD is all about the application of knowledge in the form of drawings. A comprehensive knowledge of  Orthographic and Isometric drawings as taught in Engineering Drawing in Grades 8 and 9, as well as a solid background in Science and Mathematics is therefore essential to ensure a successful transition into EGD.

 

Homework

Homework in the form of drawings will be given regularly (everyday) and it is therefore mandatory for students to have their own set of drawing equipment.

 

Tests and Forms of Assessment

Two drawing tests will be written during the 1st and 3rd Term.
Drawing examinations consisting of 2 drawing papers will be completed during the 2nd and 4th Term.
A practical assessment task (PAT) will be completed during the course of the year.

 

Facilities

The EGD room is equipped with drawing desks as well as a number of networked computers for the use of EGD learners when working on their PAT’s. AutoCAD is also installed on the computers allowing learners to become familiar with the program.
