Overview

Since being offered at the start of 2006, Business Studies has grown and become a popular choice of pupils in the FET phase.
Some of the areas that Business Studies focuses on are as follows :

Knowledge and understanding of the environment within which business activity takes place;
The major groups and organizations within and outside of business;
Roles and purposes of business activity in both the public and private sectors;
How the main types of business and commercial institutions are organized, financed and operated.

Students in Grade 10, 11 and 12 , are encouraged to take part in the annual Liberty Life JSE Schools challenge. Teams are entered and compete against each other and many other teams throughout the country in a simulated stock exchange game. The game runs from March to September as teams attempt to maximize profit by trading shares and securities.

Homework

Homework will be set as often as possible, every day if necessary. Grade 12 students will also be expected to complete old exam questions, as part of their revision on work previously covered, while exemplars provided by the education department should also be worked through as part of revision. Any homework not done should be followed up and punished suitably by the teacher concerned.
